Management Training? Really Useful?

You joined a management training. The trainer was lively. The class was engaging. Everyone was excited. But back in the office, you were still performing as before. The newly learned skills were not put into practice.

What the training left was a think binder of handouts, plus some good memory. (Well, if there were some special activities or events in the class, the training will be more memorable.)

A SME (small and medium size enterprise) owner often said, “management training has no value!” Read the rest of this entry »

On Dialogue in the Dark

Last week, I facilitated a few executive workshops for Dialogue in the Dark Hong Kong (DiD HK) – a very successful social enterprise originated in Germany.

With a special focus on promoting public awareness, empathy and equality towards the visually impaired (VI), DiD uses innovative and entertaining ways to demonstrate the potentials and talents of VIs and facilitate the people from all walks of life to reflect and improve their own lives.

The DiD executive workshop is one of the high impact service that leverages on the power of darkness to facilitate personal reflection and changes.

The motto of DiD HK reads:

Good trainers are like magicians. You can command attention from the training participants, enable them to learn with fun, and create lasting impact to their work and lives.

But becoming a good trainer is not an overnight event. You can’t just take a pill, make a wish, or take a course, and then…. glorified light over your head and you become a magical trainer. No! That is just daydreaming.

Practise, Practise, Practise

Yes, you need to practise, both mentally and physically. Take all your training sessions as your learning opportunities, try out new skills, test newly designed activities, and take note of all your learning.
